From Warship to Wonder
A unique underwater adventure is taking shape off the coast of Sindhudurg, led by Maharashtra Tourism, where the decommissioned Indian Navy warship Ex-INS Guldar has been transformed into India’s first underwater museum and artificial reef. Resting 22 metres below the sea near Nivati Rock, this extraordinary attraction offers visitors a rare chance to explore marine life inside a historic ship.
Tourists can reach the site by speedboat and choose from immersive experiences such as guided wreck dives, beginner-friendly scuba sessions, advanced diving expeditions, and even submarine tours. The ship is expected to evolve into a thriving marine ecosystem, with coral growth and vibrant aquatic life enhancing the experience.
Blending adventure, history, and sustainability, this Maharashtra Tourism initiative positions Sindhudurg as a global marine tourism hotspot for divers, photographers, and curious travellers.
